Are You Planning on a Summer Visit to GVSU?

The long winter semester at GVSU has officially ended, and students in apartments in Allendale, MI are now moving into the shorter spring and then summer semesters. It’s a great time of year to visit Grand Valley for a number of reasons.

First of all, the weather is nicer. Native Michiganders anticipate the warmer weather because they know how enjoyable it is to explore their state when the air is warm and the trees are full and green. Out-of-state students might not realize how nice summertime in Michigan really is. Winter is when we remain indoors cooped up. Summer is for fun and relaxation.

Allendale is a great place for water sports as well, so if you’re planning a trip either to check out Grand Valley as a prospective college or visit friends, be sure to schedule enough time in for boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing. Lake Michigan and all it has to offer is practically next door.

Also, the college atmosphere is more relaxed in the summer. The campus is less crowded, and people get outside to eat, play, and experience the great outdoors. Staff have more time to discuss different areas of study and what and when classes are offered. You can do a slow tour of the entire campus, including lecture halls, cultural offerings, the sports complex, and the library. Grand Valley has a ton of free events people can participate in to meet people and make their college experience richer. Picking up some pamphlets and looking them over when you have time back home will give you an idea of what is most appealing to you and what you’d like to seek out when you are an actual student here.

Finally, if you have any special needs as a person or a student, summer is a good time to explore how GVSU might accommodate them. There is no snow to wade through, and staff and volunteers have time to explain how to get around, what types of tutoring, help, or emotional support are available and who to get in touch with to find it. This is also the time to explore what type of housing would be best suited for you.

Choosing the right place to live can be a challenge for students. Just wading through the options can be time consuming and confusing. Many freshman students start off their college life in a dorm, but choose an apartment as an upperclassman. So while you’re here in the Grand Rapids area checking out everything Grand Valley has to offer on its two campuses and seeing the sights of West Michigan, take a minute to stop in our office at Meadows Crossing. We would love to discuss with you why our facilities are a cut above other housing options for students in Allendale and why Meadows Crossing should be your first college apartment at GVSU.
